John Bishop
For many years I enjoyed photography mainly as a way of recording holidays and family events, but I always felt that I wanted to be more informed and adventurous. When I retired I opened an Instagram account with a focus on wildlife and birds in particular. I found that I love the challenge of photographing birds in flight and try to capture both bird behaviour and the beauty of nature.
I bought a better DSLR camera and joined the Frome Wessex Camera Club in 2018. I received a huge amount of support and encouragement which soon led me to extend my interests into street, monochrome, and landscape.
Although very inexperienced and often lacking even basic knowledge particularly in editing, I decided that I would adopt a “have a go” mentality and extended this to competitions. I was surprised and delighted that my image of blue-footed boobies was awarded a highly commended in the Frome Salon. I entered all the competitions, both digital and print, in the club class league and found the judges’ feedback to be really useful – with my secretary bird shot gaining highly commended in the Best of the Best competition. My latest interest for this season is macro photography.
